VP-II™ S is a derivative product of the VP-II M, designed
for use in stand-alone mode. It does not have its own
networking functions but provides a variety of interface
functions to external devices or external systems such
as RF or smart card systems or other security system
backbones. Instead of using Techsphere's own proprietary
network, S can easily be integrated to existing security
system backbones, card-based security networks, or external
servers. Thus in some sense, S is very versatile in
configuration. The basic concept of S machine is to
help 3rd party or VAR integrate hand vascular biometric
technology in existing conventional access control or
T&A systems or applications. The interface functions
are designed simple and straightforward. The basic interface
provided by S is through Wiegand/RS232.
S has two major targeted applications. Firstly, as
a stand-alone system, S can effectively penetrate mid
and small-scale biometrics market, where the price barrier
of VP-II M has caused difficulty in market penetration.
The second application is to use S as vascular pattern
verification terminal within a large scale secure access
control/time and attendance system by integrating S
into the backbone network. In this type of application,
the personal vascular data are typically store in external
server or storage capable cards. In order to be effectively
integrated, S has simple, but powerful data interface
protocols utilizing RS232. Once integrated, S can be
effectively utilized by existing access control resources.
The target markets of VP-II S are expected as follows:
- Small scale offices for physical access control
- Small scale factories for access control and T&A
- Residential places such as condominiums, apartments
and luxurious villas
- Smart / Storage RF card access control market
- Interface to the solutions of SI providers as a
verification terminal of vascular pattern
** 'External System' hereinafter stands for the device
that can be interfaced to the VP-II S via RS232, which
is capable of storing vascular pattern data in it. External
System could be RF or smart card system, a Host PC/Server,
or any storage device in the network when VP-II S is
used as a verification terminal.
