Before installing VP-II
A research lab in Singapore needs to account for every
entry/ exit to guard against internal theft. Since there
are many different labs within the building, strict
authorisation and verification is needed for each lab
as different labs contains different test results. Given
the size of the building and the different labs, sometimes
it is hard to trace the whereabouts of staff. This makes
it difficult to transfer important overseas calls or
to locate staff in the event of an emergency.
Access cards do not work because they do not provide
real authentication. In the event of an access card
being lost/ stolen, lab results will be in peril of
being stolen too. The current system of sign-in and
sign-out at the reception alsos does not enable receptionist
to trace the exact whereabouts of staff.
After installing VP-II
- Only the authorised staff is allowed entry into
each lab
- Since authorisation is needed to exit each lab too,
receptionist will know when the staff actually leaves
the lab
- Access control can also be assigned to each lab
- There is no need to procure additional access cards
in the event of new staff being employed

Mapo district office (Seoul, Korea) is one of the Satellite
Cities to Seoul Metropolitan- Korea's Capital, with
about 183,000 of total population.
Before installing VP-II
Mapo district office had to manage its 573 civil workers
using a combination of manual and computing system which
uses punch cards or ID cards with barcode. Its administration
had to spend a considerable amount of time to track
employees' regular working hours and overtime hours
manually. This created a lot of problems because on
several occasions, the records didn't tally, and were
not highly reliable either. Hence, tracking Time &
Attendance for payroll settlement proved to be an extremlely
time consuming effort to the administration department
every month.
After installing VP-II
Mapo district office decided to implemented VP-II system
for their civil servants' Time & Attendance at the
main hall entrance and some of their high securityand
data sensitive rooms to track staff access. They used
TCP/IP in order to reduce the cost of cabling and central
real time monitoring. Furthermore, the network was configured
with their existing payroll software, therefore automatically
translating each employee's payroll based upon the time
and attendance record.
Effects
- All employees arrive work punctually
- "Buddy-buddy" punch in/out is no longer
allowed
- Employees do not need to carry keys/cards anymore
- No extra time/effort is needed to adjust working
hours for payroll
- This results in costs savings the from extra working
hours
- City Hall became renowned as one of the innovative
government offices
